Grace, Gratitude and Humanity

None of us could have ever imagined, the outbreak of pandemic and the circumstances in which the 32nd Olympic Games in Tokyo would be held. Tokyo Olympics was finally ready after they were postponed for a year.

Tokyo Olympic games would have no doubt posed special and extraordinary challenges to not just participants, their coaches and trainers and their families but also to the many people connected with organizing of the event. As the games started the stories of players having contracted the new coronavirus emerged. One can only imagine what a challenge it would have been for these players, trainers and coaches to recover, train, comeback to their peak forms and to participate in the sports extravaganza amid the pandemic.

Every Olympics brings with it stories of sportsmanship pushing themselves beyond threshold of tolerance, building of friendships between competitors on and off the field, controversies, physical and mental breakdown and even violence which took place during Olympics of 1972.

Tokyo 2020 was not without its own moments of heartbreak, self-belief, grace and dignity. One of the standout moments of this Olympics, according to me was heat happened during the high jump finals. Two athletes who competed each other for a gold medal one from Italy and other from Qatar were at level had cleared the same height. There after the Italian got injured and was not able to jump again, now here the Qatari a sportsman could have easily attempted the next jump and took away the gold. Instead showing the example of great sportsmanship he chose to tie with the Italian, thus ensuring a Gold for both players.

The Italian Jumped in the arms of the Qatari and the World saw the most magical moment of grace Gratitude sand Humanity.

As this Month of October we will be celebrating the 152nd birth Anniversary of   Mahatma Gandhi (Father of the Nation) the above example Reminds us of his value of Non- Violence or Ahimsa and win hearts with love. He showed the path of Love, respect and humanity. Let’s Hold our hand and move on this path of Love, Non- violence and Humanity with Grace and Gratitude.
